Big ideas under year of entrepreneurs: Govt

Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): The department of Industry and Commerce, Nagaland, today listed out the process involved in implementing the programme under ‘year of entrepreneurship,’ adopted  by the Nagaland government. A press release issued by Commissioner & Secretary Imkonglemba IAS, in response to a report carried  by  this  daily, stated that the programme was launched on April 30 during the Mokokchung road show. 

According to the Commissioner & Secretary, the year-long  program entails the following aspects: Identification of areas or scope for development of entrepreneurs in the  state;  creating  ‘enabling’ environments for promotion of  entrepreneurship  in  the  state;  organizing training and capacity-building programmes for potential entrepreneurs  in the state;  working out a calendar of activities at the state, district and block-levels to highlight the potential  of enterprises  and  entrepreneurs; identification and promotion of successful entrepreneurs and instituting recognition and  awards to such entrepreneurs.

The department- which is the nodal agency for implementing the programme  — stated that it has drawn up and is implementing a series of entrepreneurship awareness programmes in all district headquarters.  Selection  of entrepreneurs according to  fixed targets  is being  made and  selected entrepreneurs  are  to  be  sent  for  two-weeks’ entrepreneurship development programme at the Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in Guwahati. 

The department has already tied up with IIE for conducting batches of 30 entrepreneurs which will commence from September 6. 

The department further added four districts Mokokchung, Longleng, Tuensang and Phek have already completed their awareness programme. 

This will be followed by identification and selection of entrepreneurs against the districts. The next awareness programme will be held at Kiphire and will cover the remaining districts by October end. The department stated it has come out with a ‘guide to enterprise promotion,’ that will be made available in all district industries centres and the same ‘was also announced through advertisements in local papers.’   

Further, the department stated it has initiated and has obtained approval from the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise, Government of India, to set up a branch of IIE at Dimapur. A series of seminars, workshops, interactive sessions are being planned which ‘will be announced from time to time,’ the department added. The state government is also in dialogue with the Government of India including financial institutions for providing necessary seed money and credit linkages to those identified and selected entrepreneurs.

The government is also in the process of instituting committees at different levels to facilitate and coordinate the programme under the ‘year of entrepreneurs.’ The department has also informed that the funds earmarked for the programme will be utilised for development of entrepreneurs, promotion and awareness campaigns, workshops, seminar and other initiatives like preparation of project reports, hard holding and mentoring.
