Big plans afoot for mega education, health projects

The second development seminar held at Kohima for the districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire has come out with a compilation of schemes especially with regard to infrastructure development in the core sectors of roads, health and education. In the education sector, proposals are underway for opening of full-fledged Science College at Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng. Upgradation and construction of staff quarters for Sao Chang College, Tuensang, Wangkhao College, Mon, Yingli College, Longleng, and Zisaji College, Kiphire, have also been put up. There is also a proposal for the establishment of a centrally funded college at Noklak/Shamator/Longkhim besides opening of a Sainik School at Tuensang and a technical college at Mon.

As far as school infrastructure is concerned, schemes include construction of higher secondary school buildings at Longleng, Tamlu, Kiphire, Mon, Wakching, Naginimora, Tizit, Chen, Longching, Mopong, Bungmie, Tobu, Noklak, Kuthor, Thangjam and Chari. There is also demand for creation of teacher posts. This includes 500 numbers of posts of teachers to be created to meet the shortfalls in schools in Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng districts.

For development of the Power sector, proposals and plans include a Thermal Power Plant at Tizit/Naginimora/B-Namshang of 100MW (25X4=100), construction of a 150MW hydro project at Tizu-Zingki River joint which has already been approved by the government of India, construction of 10MW mini hydro project at Tshiangki River, Kiphire, and a Likimro hydro electric project phase-II (20MW).

In the health sector, plans are on for the opening and upgradation of a diagnostic centre cum treatment facility at Mon, Longleng, Kiphire and Tuensang, tropical research centre, multi-herbal research institute at Longleng, establishment of a nursing home at Tamlu town, upgradation of the District Hospital at Longleng to a 100-bedded hospital, upgradation of the PHC at Tamlu to a 50-bedded CHC, upgradation of the Mon Civil Hospital to 100-bedded one with nursing institution, upgradation of 25-bedded Primary Health Centre at Wakching SDO(C) HQ, upgradation of 25-bedded hospital at Seyochung town SDO(C) HQ, opening of new PHC at Kisetong village, opening of Sub-centre at Singti village B. Sector, opening of Sub-centre at Longya for Longya area, upgradation of Civil Hospital Longkhim to a 50-bedded CHC, upgradation of 25-bedded Primary Health Centre at Chari, and upgradation of the Civil Hospital, Kiphire.

On the infrastructure side, plans are on for construction of a Civil Hospital with staff quarters at Tuensang HQ, construction of CHC buildings with 6 staff quarters at Noklak ADC HQ, construction of PHC building with 4 staff quarters at Chessore HQ, besides creation of post of Medical Officers needed to meet the shortfall specifically for Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng districts.
