BJP appeals to maintain calm and peace

Dimapur, January 5: Nagaland State BJP today appealed the Karbi and Rengma communities to restrain their people and amicably come together to settle their differences in the interest of the general public.

Expressing shock over the gruesome murder of nine people, including a Karbi student leader, whose bodies were recovered at Pachaspura in Dimapur on January 3, the party vehemently condemned it. Asserting such action has no place in a civilized Christian state, the party aired its concern about dumping the bodies at Chumukedima jurisdiction “which involves an ulterior motive of the culprits.” The party appealed to the law enforcing agencies to take swift action in booking the culprits and award befitting punishment.  It also appealed to the people to maintain calm and peace and allow the law to take its own course of action.

Meanwhile, the party, in a press statement appended by its president Dr M Chuba Ao and general secretary and spokesman K James Vizo appreciated the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio for taking initiative in meeting his counterpart Assam Chief Minister in order to bring back the tense situation to normalcy.  The party also thanked the CM for introducing helicopter service from Dimapur to Guwahati, which it said will greatly benefit the students and other passengers “since people are scared to travel by train and road because of the prevailing situation.”

BJYM urges for dialogue to maintain peace

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nagaland Unit has also strongly condemned the killing of nine people. BJYM in a press note declared such heinous act is not acceptable in the society, and that “uncivilized and nonsense behavior mindset should be erased from the present context.” BJYM reiterated that killing of innocent people would not bring any achievement, but rather bring division among fellow people.

At the same time, BJYM also condemned the ugly situation meted out to Rengma Nagas of Karbi Anglong by Karbi militants by killing innocent public and burning down their shelters. BJYM requested the Karbi militants to stop torturing innocent public and suggested to settle issues through dialogue in order to maintain peace in the region. BJYM Nagaland further appealed to the Assam government and law enforcing agencies to provide sufficient security for Rengmas of Assam at this time.
