BJP calls recent PDA government appointments as ‘well-thought strategy’

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): In the backdrop of People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government facing backlash over its recent controversial appointments, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland today conveyed “profound appreciation” to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for appointment of its senior party leaders as members of the PDA.

“These appointments are not only in the spirit of coalition but a well-thought strategy to strengthen the Alliance and ensure smooth functioning of the Government,” claimed BJP Nagaland in a statement issued by its Media Cell.

“Elections are simply not won by legislators alone but require the active support and coordination of the party and its cadres. Referring to senior political party members as 'mere' party leaders exposes the shallow mindedness and ignorance of party politics and governance in a multi-party democracy,” it added.

Stating that the PDA promised a host of welfare policies and programmes before the elections through its Common Minimum programme, the State BJP iterated its “solemn pledge that the appointment of party leaders and cadres will ensure that the announced policies and commitments are effectively fulfilled in coordination with the government at the Centre.”

While claiming to understand the “apprehension” of the public regarding the appointments, the party assured that “these appointments would, in the long run, not be a burden to the state’s exchequer but a booster to accelerate development and open windows for funds to pour into the state with collective effort.”

The BJP Nagaland further requested the people “not to jump the gun but to give some time” to the government to revitalize the State’s economy.
