‘BJP members not working against Christianity’

BJP Nagaland responds to NPCC

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland state unit in response to the NPCC today maintained that BJP has memberships from all communities and religions, including Christians, and none are opposed to Christianity nor working against it.

Stating that BJP Nagaland and BJP (national) have nothing to do with the NPCC’s “obsession” of ‘trishul’, it clarified that the lotus, the party symbol, and not the ‘trishul’ is planted in the BJP Nagaland and in Nagaland for the last three terms of 14 years. “The NPCC should not use the trishul and lotus inter-alia according to its whims to hammer its weightless points,” stated a rejoinder from Jaangsillung Gonmei, General Secretary (Media) & Spokesperson, BJP Nagaland.

It also accused the NPCC of “dwelling on the religious lines to wash off its dirty linens for elections.” The “presumed fear” of the NPCC President, it added, “is only a pretension trying to harp on the peoples’ mind which would not materialize into anything fruitful.”

“If the NPCC President wants to feign so much concern for Christian welfare elsewhere, it should be noted that a Christian is not deterred by external threats... What is most important is to spiritually strengthen one’s own self and society with good works and actions which thus safeguards the believers,” the BJP added.

On Naga political issue, the BJP Nagaland told NPCC that till date in the post Independence era, the Congress had 8 Prime Ministers and ruled for 64 years while the BJP had 2 Prime Ministers for 8 years running. “Considering the long innings, there was not much of a Congress milestone in the six decades reflecting that the Congress leaders were not as serious as the BJP leaders but used Naga issue as leverage for their electoral gains. Evidently, the non seriousness of the Congress on the Naga issue could be summed up in the terms of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 who committed to the Nagas at Dimapur local ground to talk on Naga issue without pre-condition if voted to power,” the rejoinder stated.

With regard to the allegation of EVM tampering, BJP responded, “it is faultless as substantiated by the Supreme Court and ECI and only losers complain. However, improvements to continually assure its efficiency are being undertaken.”

Further, it was asserted that the BJP Nagaland is serious about bringing positive developments in the state at par with the rest of the country on the principles of “Sabke Saath, Sabke Vikas” or “Together with all, Development for all” and will not be deterred from the aim and purpose.
