BJP Nagaland organises Choral Competition

In a first of its kind initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland today organised a choral competition of the National Anthem in commemoration of the 161st Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and 75 Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.

A total number of 10 colleges and institutions from in and around Kohima participated in the singing competition with Ajeen Longchari, Khyochano TCK and Vesato Theluo in the panel of judges.

State College of Teacher Education, Kohima was declared winner of the competition and awarded with a citation and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. College of Arts & Technology, Nerhe Phezha, and Kohima College Kohima were adjudged second and third respectively. Accordingly, they were also given citations and cash prizes of Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000.

Speaking of behalf of Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Higher education and Tribal affairs, who could not grace the occasion, OSD, Akum O Tzudir highlighted that Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the government, dedicated to the people of India and celebrates the glorious history of its people, culture, religion and achievements. 

He also spoke about Rabindranath Tagore's contributions, whose efforts, achievements and sacrifice for nation building is immense. He further urged upon the gathering to be a responsible citizen of this great nation, who can contribute whether it is in the village, town or in whatever possible way. 

Referring to the students gathered from 10 institutions, he also remarked that it is a privilege to be studying in the capital where the battle of Kohima was fought in this very soil. “Be an ambassador of this great city and of this small state of Nagaland and be a contributing citizen,” he told them.

State vice president of BJP, Peter Rutsa also spoke on the occasion and noted that this is one of a kind event to honour the Nobel laureate as well as to celebrate 75 years of our freedom. He hoped that all the participating institutions will go back thinking they are all winners.
