Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): BJP National Executive Council, Minority Cell, Nagaland today asserted that BJP is the only hope for Christian and tribal in the Northeast to progress. Accusing the Congress of being “communal and racial discrimination party," Minority Cell member Vethisa Chakhesang in a press release cited, “In the hand of Congress party, the Christian and the tribals in the Northeast India have no signs of regards and no chance for any coveted post in the country except minority Muslim and people from mainland India.”
The press statement claimed that during Vajpayee’s regime, Nagaland state got special grant for many developments and also all the accumulated deficit incurred by the state was waived, but when Congress came to power, “in spite of getting the special grant, the state plan outlay has been reduced.”
Highlighting “some facts about Christian and tribal leaders,” the BJP Minority Cell said Dr. SC Jamir’s name was in the panel for vice president of India, but was dropped on account of “favoritism”. Further, it added, Northeast people “set aside” PA Sangma, NCP member from Northeast state for the post of President of India. However, “UPA opposed him and supported the mainland candidate.”
The press release also mentioned the “political resolution” on situation in the Northeast drafted during the BJP national council meeting held in New Delhi recently. The BJP, in the resolution stated, “There must be earnest effort made to find a permanent solution to the Naga issue.” Meanwhile, BJP accused the “Congress collusion in massive Bangladeshi infiltration” as the root cause of recurring violence in Assam. “There has to be a national consensus to treat the Assam problem as an Indian Vs Foreigner issue, and not as Hindu Vs Muslim issue.” However, it stated, “those Hindus who are forced to leave both Pakistan and Bangladesh because of religious persecution must be given due safety and security and Refugee status.” It also demanded that there must be a National Register of Citizen (NRC) by deleting the names of non-citizen from the voter's list in Assam.
