The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has assured on Wednesday that it will continue to support the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in Meghalaya till the end of this term.

This is the outcome of a meeting between BJP national vice president, Dr M Chuba Ao and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma who is also the national president of the NPP, which was held at the official residence of the latter on Wednesday.

“We will support and be together with the government till the (next) election comes,” Dr. Ao said after this meeting.
Dr. Ao then said that he will discuss the state BJP’s demand for a CBI probe into alleged misappropriation of central funds by the two ADCs – Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council. Stating that he will take this up with state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie, Dr. Ao reaffirmed the party’s commitment to root out corruption.

Dr Ao also said that he is not aware that the state party is planning to seek the intervention of the Lokayukta on the issue of corruption and added that the matter needs to be examined properly.

Denying that his party has decided to soften its stand against corruption, Dr Ao said, “We never compromise as we have zero tolerance for corruption…but things should come out openly and we cannot just blindly jump (to conclusions).”
