Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): A press release received here from the BJP Nagaland State Unit stated that the High Power Committee (HPC) on the Eastern Nagaland statehood demand has welcomed all in Nagaland to attend the ‘public hearing and consultative meeting’ of the BJP that will be attended by its national President Nitin Gadkari, who will visit Mon and Tuensang on December 14 accompanied by P. Chandra Sekhar Rao, BJP Zonal Org. Secretary North East states, Tapir Gao, ex MP and national general secretary of BJP and Prasant Arora, general secretary org. Nagaland state BJP.
The BJP HPC, following a consultative meeting with ENPO leaders (Pongom Khiamniungan and Toshi Wungtung) on December 5, said that the ENPO leaders acknowledged that Gadkari would be welcome to visit the Eastern areas of Nagaland. The BJP, in turn, acknowledged the “unique background and separate entity” of the Eastern Naga peoples.
For this, the two have joined hands for the “further progress of the Eastern Naga people’s movement” said the press release. The BJP has “reaffirmed” that the people of Eastern Nagaland should be accorded “constitutional status that they aspire for”. The BJP lauded the ENPO for the “unanimous and active support to the statehood demand from each and every group of Naga peoples”.
The press release has been signed by BJP Nagaland unit members namely Convener HPC Dr. M. Chuba Ao, Co Convener HPC K. Medom Angami, Member Secretary Havithung Bill Lotha, and members Yambos Murry, Yanghose Sangtam, Khongwang Konyak and Sundar Jain.
The BJP has further stated that it feels “great pain” to hear that the Congress led UPA Alliance has offered a financial package instead of settling the issue, “which the Eastern peoples has rightfully and totally rejected”.
The press release from BJP then went on to say that “selfish and vested interest of NPF legislators and MPs” were clear because the ENPO had submitted a copy of the Memorandum to MP (Lok Sabha) C.M. Chang but “he didn’t raise the issue in parliament”.
