The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland today staged a dharna here and demanded early settlement of the Naga political issue and later submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Nagaland. “We want solution,” “Peace and unity,” “Nagas want peace,” “We want early settlement of Naga political issue,” read some placards carried by party workers at the function held at Old MLA Hostel Junction.
Nagaland BJP President Dr. M. Chuba Ao termed the 15 years of peace negotiation as the longest negotiation on the issue of the protracted Naga political problem. Pointing out that Naga people are suffering over the last 60 years of a long political struggle, he wondered as to how it is not able to bring settlement despite the 15 years of negotiation.
He said that BJP Nagaland has taken decision to stage dharna, demanding early solution to the Naga political issue and to bring about peace as BJP was of the opinion that development will be possible only when there is peaceful atmosphere.
Dr. Chuba said Naga people should come forward and support the move of BJP in demanding early solution of the Naga political issue. Being a national party, Dr. Chuba said the BJP will not boycott the elections but it will voice for deferment of elections and demand for solution of the Naga political issue.
He also subscribed the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) initiative for early solution of peace process as good motive.” He however slammed the JLF as “total failure” in “resignation game.” It was of the view that if the JLF is so serious, they should resign first.
He also appealed to all Naga citizens to “forgive and forget” adding that if this principle is adhered then people can come together and live together.
In this, he appealed to all Naga people to come together in amnesty in this period.
He also asserted that the government should not play with the sentiment of the people anymore, adding the government must be serious and bring early settlement.
Johnny G. Rengma, vice president BJP asserted that constitutional crisis will arise if 60 legislators resign, which will then draw bigger attention on seriousness of the Naga political issue.
He called upon all Nagas to rise up and voice against Congress and NPF, adding that they should resign immediately “so that Naga political issue will be taken up.”
He also questioned the credibility of two MPs from Nagaland, saying that they were sent to Parliament to take up the issue. However, he said that not a single question was raised by them in the Parliament over the last five years in both Houses.
“Not even a single day, Khekiho and CM Chang have raised a single issue about the Naga political settlement. This is a record,” he said.
Charging that money is the high command of the regional party, he said that money should not be allowed to speak for Naga people and take away the rights of the Naga people.
Later, in a memorandum submitted to Governor Nikhil Kumar, the BJP Nagaland drew his attention on the solution to the protracted political problem of the Nagas of more than six decades.
“It is evident that the Naga people having realized the dire situation have overtly supported any efforts to find an early solution on the matter, as reflected by their support for the ongoing peace negotiations between the Government of India and Naga insurgency group. However, it is sad that the peace negotiations had been dragging on for more than fifteen years with no solutions,” said its President Dr. M. Chuba Ao in a memorandum adding that it has left a terrible void in the minds of the people as well as the other Naga political factions of the outcome to be expected.
For reasons of such lengthy delay and apprehension that the matter may not be all comprehensive of the general Naga political aspirations for a lasting solution, the BJP Nagaland requested the Governor of Nagaland that “the aspirations and opinions of all factions and groups be also considered, to hopefully ensure bringing about a broad solution that would be acceptable to all the factions, as well as the general public at the earliest.”
Meanwhile, BJP central leader P.B Acharya Nagaland election in-charge would arrive Nagaland on January 10 while northeast zonal in-charge Chandrashekar and former MP Tapir Gao National BJP general secretary in-charge for Nagaland would arrive on January 11.
