The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wokha District organised a “Professional Meet on Developed India” at the BJP Office, Wokha on June 25. The event focused on engaging collaboration across key sectors such as healthcare, entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, skill development, and local governance. Aimed at strengthening community participation in development processes, the program served as a platform for discussing local challenges and potential solutions.
Alongside the professional meet, the BJP Wokha unit also held a press conference and a public awareness programme to highlight the achievements of the central government over the past 11 years.
Addressing the gathering, BJP Wokha District, President Rhanbemo Odyuo emphasised the developmental strides made in the district over the past decade. He pointed to significant improvements in road connectivity and the impact of central government schemes on youth and public welfare. “Our district has witnessed notable transformation due to the central government’s initiatives. These schemes have empowered our youth and improved the overall quality of life,” said Odyuo.
Mahila Morcha President, Caroline Patton spoke on the vital role of women in rural development. She noted that central schemes have enabled the formation of numerous Self Help Groups (SHGs), which have empowered women economically and socially.
Nzano P Kikon, Deputy Chairperson of Wokha Town Council, addressed pressing issues related to cleanliness and waste management. She highlighted the logistical difficulties caused by the absence of proper approach roads and called for greater public cooperation in maintaining sanitation standards.
“We are committed to keeping Wokha clean, but we need collective efforts from the community. Basic hygiene practices go a long way,” Kikon appealed.
Anuranjan Singh, Skill Development Officer pointed out that Wokha currently ranks seventh in Nagaland’s District Domestic Product (DDP). Despite having the distinction of being the state’s largest banana-producing district, he said economic gains remain limited due to a lack of value-chain infrastructure.
“Processing, packaging, and marketing remain areas of concern. Farmers must avail themselves of government training programs to boost income and productivity,” Singh urged.
Dr Mhonjan Kithan, Medical Superintendent of Wokha District Hospital, briefed attendees about healthcare benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He encouraged citizens to utilize the Ayushman card for free medical services at the District Hospital, Community Health Centres in Wokha and Bhandari, and Primary Health Centres in Chukidong and Ralan.
R Thungbeni Ezung, Vice President of Lotha Eloe Hoho, underscored the ongoing need to address gender inequality. She encouraged women to step out of traditional roles and participate in community development.
The programme concluded with a showcase of the BJP’s community outreach efforts, including a plantation drive in which over 2,000 saplings were planted. The party also highlighted various developmental initiatives undertaken across the district.
