Better Life Foundation team during the weeklong programme with farmers in Tuensang.
Tuensang: As part of Better Life Foundation (BLF) rural livelihood initiative to propagate alternate option for the Jhum farmers, commercial scale sustainable horticulture such as low chilling varieties apple and kiwi under Longkhim Sub-Division were introduced.
Better life Foundation Managing Director Sethrichem Sangtam in a press release said that the project has covered farmers’ club members in 10 villages since 2012 with technical backup from Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Himachal Pradesh and KVK Tuensang.
During the weeklong informal programme, the farmers exchanged their learning as they visit the plantation site of their fellow farmers of the neighbouring villages.
Nagaland Pollution Control Board and Ministry of Environment and Forest cosponsored the programme. Hajong (IES) Director NERLP and the NERLP Regional Management team along with the State Coordinator and Tuensang District Manager also visited the plantation areas of few villages like Lirise and Chungtor at the end of the weeklong event on March 1. Khumpise Sangtam, Spl. Hd. DB for Longkhim and Chare accompanied the NERLP team during their visit.
