Dimapur, July 19 (MExN): The BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi has announced the launch of its monthly Out-Patient Department (OPD) services in Dimapur, covering Nephrology and Renal Transplantation, Oncology, and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery and Liver Transplantation. The services will be offered in collaboration with Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Eden Medical Centre’s conference hall on July 19, attended by a team of doctors from BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi.

The OPD services will be conducted once a month by a team of senior clinicians: Principal Director-Nephrology & Renal Transplant Dr Vishal Saxena; Director-Medical Oncology Dr Chandragouda Dodagoudar; and Principal Consultant-HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation, Dr Imtiakum Jamir.

While the specific dates for their availability were not disclosed due to variables such as flight schedules and weather conditions, the doctors assured that updates regarding the OPD schedules would be disseminated via the social media platforms of Eden Medical Centre and through local newspapers.

Dr Saxena stated that the objective of the OPD services is to deliver super specialty care and expert opinions, enhancing access to quality healthcare in Nagaland to levels comparable with global standards. “We aim to provide streamlined and timely access to specialised kidney care. Our focus is on enhancing early detection, personalised treatment plans, and long-term management, ensuring better outcomes for patients with kidney-related disorders,” he said.

Dr Dodagoudar, who has been regularly visiting Eden Medical Centre each month, confirmed that the Oncology services would continue uninterrupted. He stated, “Our aim is to make treatments affordable, accessible to every part of India and especially to the people in Nagaland.”

He further highlighted that cancer care requires timely consultation and a multi-disciplinary approach. “The launch of Oncology OPD in Dimapur aims to benefit more patients by offering timely diagnosis, expert care, and personalized follow-up without requiring long-distance travel,” he said, adding that the initiative will help bring comprehensive cancer care closer to patients.

Dr Jamir, while discussing liver-related ailments in the region, identified liver cirrhosis—often associated with alcohol use—as a significant health concern in Nagaland. He pointed out that fatty liver disease is becoming increasingly prevalent among both men and women, largely due to lifestyle changes.

He stressed that early detection is crucial in preventing liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. “Once liver fibrosis and cirrhosis develop the risk of liver cancer increases,” he said, urging the state to take proactive measures to address these issues.

Commenting on the prevalence of liver cancer in Nagaland, he said, “While the exact proportion is unknown, there are a significant number of liver cancer patients in the state.” He noted that liver transplantation remains a viable option only if the cancer is confined to the liver, making early detection and treatment critical.

Dr Jamir described the launch of the HPB and Liver Transplantation OPD as “a significant step in enhancing specialized care for complex liver and pancreatic conditions.” He assured that the multidisciplinary team is committed to “providing timely intervention, advanced surgical options and ongoing support to patients throughout their treatment journey.”
