Blocked culvert & drainage remains a problem

12 families vacate residence and around 35 families affected in Eros Colony

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): The total blocked of main outlet culvert and drainage which drains out Hong Kong Market, MP Road Deluxe point, Elora Line and Blue Hill station under Eros Colony has affected these areas causing flooding to residences and shops leading to unhealthy living conditions.

The situation has compelled 12 families to vacate residence and around 35 families affected at present. “Many more will be affected during coming monsoons. The blocked problem had been raised to concern Authority in past years but remedial measures could not be taken up owing to financial constraints,” stated a press release issued by the Eros Colony Council.

“However, this time the situation has become very serious that the Colony Council had to take up initiative to clear the blocked. Though the council is doing its best with the help of some effected members yet the major obstacle is to dig up the highway and put Hume pipes over the old culvert which has failed to serve its purpose,” the ECC added. It stated that work is continuing for the 3rd week and it has been causing lots of inconvenience to public and traffic for which the council request for kind cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Council also appeals residents and shops not to dump garbage and hazardous materials in the drainage.

Eros Colony Council further acknowledged DC Dimapur District for taking concern and contributing Rs.50,000 for ongoing works and also assuring to take up the matter at higher levels. The Council also informed that Administrative Officer DMC has extended use of JCB & DMC labours; EE Highways along with his SDO has verified the effected spot and granting permission to cut the road and also assuring to give required Hume pipes; and the staff of State Disaster Management Authority did the spot verification for needful consideration.
