Bold and sagacious step: NPF Women wing on Rio’s suspension

Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): The Naga Peoples’ Front Women Wing Central Office today hailed the suspension former Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio as a bold and sagacious decision.

In an order signed on May 17, NPF President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu had ordered the suspension the lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland from the primary and active membership of the party with “immediate effect and until further orders” for "anti-party activities".

In a press statement received here, the Women wing president Tonlih Wangsa and Advisor Atsole Wazah said it welcomed the ‘stout stand’ taken by the Disciplinary Action Committee and the party President Dr Shurhozelie and extended its ‘wholehearted support’ to the decision.

While it has been the declared stand of the NPF party to provide a stable Government, it alleged that the present dispensation has been adversely affected by “selfish ambitions” of some members who went to “the extent of de-stabilising the party-led Government”

“The only option left to the party is to suspend those responsible for creating hurdles in the smooth functioning and continuance of the Government, so as not to compromise on the promise to the people to provide a stable Government,” it added.

Further stressing that while it is never easy to part ways after more than a decade as a “political family,” it said that the political sagacity and maturity of the President was indicated when he took the bold step though “It is common knowledge that he and Rio have been together since the early part of the last decade.”

“This clearly shows that the President cares more for the NPF than his personal relations with anybody,” it maintained adding that as the head of the “political family”, it would have been dereliction in his duty if the party President  had not obeyed the decision of the DAC.
