Sekhose on the occasion of National Education Day here today.   The book was dedicated to the unknown child who has been ill-treated by parents and teacher.   This book is an extract from a research work conducted by the author on “Learning disabilities of primary tribal children in Nagaland,” (2002).   The purpose of designing this book is to enable the teachers, educators and parents to identify children who are suffering from disabilities and devise remedial programmes accordingly, said Dr. Khing.   This book also aims to reach out to the people in general to be aware of the causes of learning disabilities and its corrective measures.   Through this research book, the author came to realize the agony and frustration going through the mind of the unknown neglected child, who has been shunned and ill treated by his teachers, parents and society and labeled him as a defective child.   “It is hoped and pray that this extract will pave the way for those who are suffering from learning disabilities to combat the various learning disabilities that have become a hindrance to learning,” she said.   The book cover 10 chapters on concept of learning disabilities, its identification, historical background based year wise from foundation phase up to date, common casual factors of learning disabilities, account of Dyslexia, Aphasia, general remedial programs for learning disabilities, teaching the brain damaged child and perceptual motor systems.   “This book can be used for the completion of BA, B.Ed, MA, M.Ed, degree students of various Universities in India. This text can also be served the needs of the research scholars, teacher educators and parents,” stated Dr. Khing in a preface.   Dr. Khing, BA (Hons), MA (Ed), Ph.D, is presently serving as an Associate Professor, Kohima College.
