Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): The state government is urged to take necessary steps to bring to book the Assam Police personnel responsible for murdering a Naga villager, one S Alemmongba on May 29 in Anaki ‘C’. A police force for the borders and compensation to the victim’s family are also demanded.
A memorandum to the Commissioner & Secretary of Nagaland from the Mopungchuket Senso Dimapur expressed strong discontent that the dastardly act of the Assam Police was committed under the pretext of protecting a disputed area. This is unjustified and is of cowardice, stated the memo appended by the Senso’s president Takusashi and general secretary K Nukensashi Jamir. The senso made mention that contrary to the claim of the perpetrators, the site of the murder was “far, far away” from the boundary (demarcated in) 1925.
Demanding steps to bring the Assam police personnel to justice, the senso reminded that if all such violations by outsider-elements are left unattended and unanswered by the Nagaland government, more bloodshed will be incurred. “If the government remains silent as silent spectator and simply (maintains) analytical correspondent with the Assam counterpart,” the wounds of the aggrieved villages and people will not be healed, the memorandum stated.
Demanding from the Nagaland government that the Assam Government be urged to punish the rogue cops, the union also called for compensation to the deceased’s family. The victim is the sole bread-earner and is survived by two daughters and a son, all minors, the senso informed. It cautioned against failure to meet the demands and any untoward consequences ‘for which the government will be held solely responsible.’
