Nakachari, May 5 (MExN): In the backdrop of the border skirmishes in the Nagaland-Assam border sector, the Naga people living in a tiny border township located at Nakachari in Jorhat District of Assam has been settled since 1937 thus bears significance due to their harmonious co-existence with the local naive to date. To put on record, a book titled ‘Naga nunger Nakachari nung talidak mesemteta aliba otsu, 1937-2017’ ( 80 years History of Naga settlement at Nakachari 1937-2017) authored and compiled by Imsu Jamir was released in a simple function held today at Nakachari.
The book was dedicated by Rev. Dr. Lima Jamir, Dean of Post Graduate studies, Eastern Theological College, Jorhat.
Imsu Jamir (Born at Lirmen village), now 88 who had too settled there during 1950s is a torch bearer for the Nagas who are living at Nakachari to date. It is pertinent to mention about this gentleman for his proactive role played for the welfare of the Naga people visiting Assam for different needs during the years of turbulent era. From records, it is understood that many innocent Naga people used to get arrested by the Assam Police under suspicion during 50s till 70s and thus put them behind the bar. “Imsu used to be a regular legal bailor for that lot and secure release from treason,” stated a press release issued by Er. Temsu Wathi Ao.
For the benefit of the Nagas living in this sector, the Govt of Assam has nominated him as a President through All Assam Tribal Sangha for issuance of ST Hills certificates and PRC for the genuine Naga people living at Assam since 1990s. Imsu is also the Vice President of Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) since its inception and excelling well for peace building works between the border living people of Nagaland and Assam.
