With the second term of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government coming to end, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today expressed happiness over the completion of a successful tenure with a record of achievements.
“We have feeling of happiness and pride for having achieved something,” a visibly delighted Rio said while releasing a booklet on DAN 2nd Ministry: A Record of achievements of the Government of Nagaland (2008-2012) here this morning at the Banquet Hall.
Highlighting some of the notable achievements made in various sectors during the 2nd term, Rio mentioned the landmarks achievements in the field of agriculture, naming of streets and roads after prominent personalities, State Assembly passing policies for petroleum and natural gas exploration, amendment of Village and Area Council Act, policies for the youths, adoption of State logo, the introduction of Dr. T.Ao Sports Award & Trophy, the Park in Mokokchung in honour of the first Chief Minister of Nagaland, P. Shilu Ao and the Naga Solidarity Park at Kohima.
One achievement we should emphasize and mention is highlighting our Naga unique history, our culture and our unique identity to the rest of the world, he said. Rio however lamented that many people are critical when we promote our “Naganess”.
Rio said the unique history, culture and our identity have been highlighted even in the national and international platforms highlighting Nagas as unique group of people. He also mentioned about the interface between the government and people through tribal festivals and the youth expos.
The Chief Minister also stated that DAN government had done extremely well in its policies for the people. He made a special mention that it had done well in its policy on youth in which youths are going beyond the State, trained and finding gainful employment outside the State.
Rio stated that its vision statement enshrined in the manifesto of 2008 could be achieved in many ways, adding that it has much more to pursue and bring better life for the people.
Rio maintained that all the achievements were made possible because of the support and prayer from people, the exemplary performance of the State machinery, his colleagues, departments, bureaucrats and technocrats etc.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the full cooperation received from the civil societies, churches, students and public and thanked them for making the tenure peaceful and a successful one.
Rio further thanked Almighty for all the achievements made during the 2nd term of DAN Ministry and also expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for generous funding as the State does not have resources of its own. He also thanked Council of Minister and Legislators for their cooperation and leadership shown in pushing forward the programme and schemes of the various departments under them for the benefit of the people.
He also thanked the then Chief Secretary, Lalthara, IAS for his leadership in implementing and carrying forward the programmes and policies of the government.
Earlier, Lalthara in his introductory remark said that DAN government, although a coalition government, has completed its tenure without any hic-up which is a remarkable achievement.
He said that during the 2nd term of DAN Ministry, the State received various awards including Bharat Nirman Award for Rural Housing in 2009 and Nirmal Gram Puraskar Award (Clean Village Award) for 90 villages from the Government of India and has been selected for Krishi Karman Award for the Best Performing State in overall foodgrains production among Category-III States. He also mentioned that the State has been receiving the outstanding performance Award in Rashtriya Swastha Bima Yojana (RSBY) programme implementation for the last 4 consecutive years from 2009 to 2012 and also Most improved State in Infrastructure in the Small State Category from India Today Group.
Commissioner and Secretary, IPR, M.K. Mero in his foreword to the booklet had penned…”This booklet is an endeavour to place on record the various activities, services and developments achieved by the different government departments under the DAN Government with active guidance of the Chief Minister himself and other concerned Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Advisors and Chairpersons.”
The programme was chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for IPR, R. Tohanba while Commissioner & Secretary IPR, M.K. Mero proposed vote of thanks.
