Booming paddy cultivation in Phek district

Phek | August 8 : A rippling green wave could be spotted across Phek region with 98% successful cultivation of paddy. This year year’s cultivation is considered to be one of the most successful in a period of more than a decade owing to the favourable weather.
A Gaon Bura from Phek Village who is also an experienced and successful cultivator remarked that, majority of the people of the region unlike the previous years are engaged in hectic preparation for the forthcoming Thurinye festivals following the satisfactory cultivation. The Thurinye festival annually falls in the month of August last week to first week of September.
Comparing the previous harvest which turned out to be very poor, farmers are expecting some recovery during this year’s harvest. Farmers feared the occurrence of landslides and mudslides which usually damages large area of cultivated paddy due to the heavy torrential rain this year. However, the GB says that by the grace of Almighty no such natural calamities occurred even in the midst of heavy rains.
Observing the beautiful and prosperous paddy field, the GB stated that “as forefathers believed, with the greenery scene in all the paddy fields” he is optimistic of an improve in the health of the farmers as it believed that green environment produces pure atmosphere leading to a healthier lives.
