Deputy Chief Minister (home) and minister in-charge of border affairs Y. Patton today informed that the current status at Amguri gate is under control after intervention by the administration and police of Mokokchung and Sivasagar district of Nagaland and Assam respectively.
Replying to MLA Amenba Yaden on the status of the conflicts and disputes at Amguri gate where the Assam Police attempted to set up their camp inside Nagaland near Amguri gate, the deputy chief minister informed that the state government through the Home Commissioner Nagaland had also written to a letter on 26.07.2018 to the principal secretary (home), Government of Assam, requesting to direct the District Administration Sivasagar not to carry out any construction activities in the DAB.
The matter is also subjudiced in the Supreme Court, Patton informed. Replying to another question, Patton said that the government had deployed platoon of IR personnel to contain the situation, adding that the IR platoon was kept in Tuli as the striking reserve to meet any contingencies in the border areas.
On being asked why the forces have been stationed some 25 kms away from the disputed place when there are 100 plus empty structures for accommodation NAP jawans in Paper Mill colony which are located within a radius of 5 kms of the disturbed area, Patton informed that though there are many empty structures at paper mile but due to non availability of electricity and water supply, the IR personnel could not be accommodated at Paper Mill colony.
However, four section of IR personnel are station at Watiyongpang Check Gate (Amguri Gate) itself that is near the very dispute place. However for any eventualities in Watiyongpang area, the 13 (IR Bn) posted in Yajang can easily move to tackle the situation, Patton informed.
On query why the IRB jawans made to occupy the office of the functional manager and also the Resource Centre of the Industries department at Tuli, making it dysfunctional for more than 2 months if the situation at the border post is already contained, Patton informed that one platoon IR from Changtongya was re-deployed to Tuli on 24.07.
2018 due to border tension/issue at Watiyongpang Check Gate and was accommodated at the office of the functional manager Sub Industries Centre Tuli on the direction of the ADC Tuli who had taken permission from the concerned office for temporary accommodation of the IR personnel.
He said the IR battalion at industry office, Tuli was kept as a striking reserve to meet an contingencies in the border area as there is no sufficient accommodation available at Watiyongpang Check Gate.
“No report was received from the concerned office that the presence of the IR personnel was making the office dysfunctional. However, the IRB have been withdrawn on 11.09. 2018,” the deputy chief minister informed.
