Border row: DC Mkg denies NE TV report

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 11 (MExN): Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Singh has expressed strong resentment with regard to a news item telecast on NE TV with regard to events on Assam-Nagaland Border on August 8 2007 where it has been alleged that the District Administration Mokokchung, Public and NSCN (IM) are responsible for the events. “Such an allegation is baseless, arbitrary malicious and is strongly denied”, Singh stated in a letter addressed to Phukan, Bureau Chief, North East TV, Guwahati.

The DC pointed out that some misguided AASU volunteers where responsible for the irrational attempt to enter Nagaland without valid reason or papers and that was strongly objected to by people of Mokokchung and district administration Mokokchung. “Accordingly realizing the folly of AASU volunteers, DC and SP of Jorhat intervened and arrested the volunteers near Sonowal thus avoiding confrontation. I am grateful to Jorhat administration for this”, the DC further clarified adding that the district administration of Mokokchung looked forward to friendly and neighbourly relations with Jorhat and other bordering districts of Assam and firmly believed that together, the people of Assam and Nagaland can take care of the nefarious designs of certain vested interests that are hell bent on creating trouble on the border. “In view of this it is requested to avoid giving such baseless allegations on TV that can result in serious misunderstandings”, the DC stated.
