Breaking Barriers: People’s College Mokokchung hosts first October Fiesta

People’s College, Mokokchung, celebrated its inaugural October Fiesta on October 26 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex under the theme “Breaking Barriers.” The event, graced by Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji as the Guest of Honor, included various performances, competitions, and stalls from local colleges showcasing food and handicrafts.

Metsubo Jamir, Minister of Rural Development and SIRD and proprietor of the college, commended the institution’s swift progress. He emphasized that the college’s primary mission is to serve and uplift the community rather than compete with others, highlighting its commitment to fostering academic growth within the Ao community. He expressed hope that the college would nurture students to become leaders who contribute positively to their community. Jamir also encouraged parents to keep their children in local institutions, combining cultural understanding with academic pursuits.

Guest of Honour Thsuvisie Phoji lauded the college’s dedication to quality education and spoke on the unique challenges of the digital age, urging students to cultivate empathy and a spirit of collaboration. He emphasized the need for community support and cooperation to advance higher education in Mokokchung, encouraging institutions to “shine together and make Mokokchung a center of excellence.” He encouraged attendees to approach competition with a spirit of mutual upliftment and empathy.

The fiesta also featured a wide range of competitions, including solo performances, cosplay, painting, sketching, acapella, ikebana, and group and solo dance events, drawing participation from schools and colleges across the district.
