Four villages in Mokokchung district, near the Assam-Nagaland border have been almost cut off from the rest of Nagaland following heavy rainfall.

According to Chubatoshi, Executive Engineer, PWD (NH), Mokokchung Division, a wooden bridge in the Longchem-Naganijan road was badly damaged on the night of August 29 following a bout of heavy rain.

While informing that the bridge was on the verge of collapse, the EE said, "This is the only road that connects the four border villages-- Saringyim, Aonokpuyimsen, Tsuremmen & Akomen from Nagaland side and the bridge was badly damaged as the wooden columns supporting the main beams were  uprooted due to scouring."

The bridge over a small stream near the bigger Liangmen stream, is located about 5.3km from Longchem EAC Headquarters. Longchem falls on the Japukong range.

He said that the Department inspected the bridge, alongwith Nokpu Village Council, on August 31 and it was found to be not motorable.  He added that  mobilisation was on for reconstruction at the earliest.
