The British Deputy High Commissioner (Consul General) Kolkata, Nick Low today arrived in Nagaland and is expected to visit various locations and hold interactions on various issues, besides observing the Remembrance Day in Kohima on November 11.
He halted for the day in Dimapur on Wednesday and visited Diezephe village, besides other engagements.
Low will leave for State capital Kohima on Thursday, where his itineraries, among other, include visits to the Catholic Cathedral (Mary Help of Christians Cathedral Kohima) as well as the 2nd World War Museum at Kisama Heritage Village, among others.
However, the Deputy High Commissioner specifically came for observing the ‘the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month” or the Remembrance Day (Armistice Day), marking the end of World War I and honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
During the particular moment on November 11, he will be laying a wreath at the Kohima War Cemetery and remembering all those who “gave their lives in service to their country since 1914.”
Low informed The Morung Express that The Royal British Legion, a charity that looks after the interests of former servicemen was earlier keen to bring a group of former soldiers who fought in the Battle of Kohima, but the COVID-19 pandemic during the last 3 years had prevented the plan.
They were very disappointed, so I made a promise (to visit and lay the wreath) even though we weren't able to bring them here, he said. Low is expected to return to Kolkata thereafter.
It must be noted here that the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata represents the United Kingdom government in 13 states and 1 Union Territory of East and North-East India as well as Bhutan.
