The much awaited Biosafety Level-3 lab at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) is all set to be operationalised with a brief dedicatory programme on May 21 at 11 am.
“We are all set to inaugurate the long awaited BSL-3 lab at NHAK, Kohima tomorrow at 1100 hrs. We express our gratitude to all for supporting us to reach thus far” tweeted Health Minister, S Pangnyu Phom today.
Speaking to The Morung Express, Phom said, everything is set now for the functioning of the lab. The lab will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
Phom informed that the BSL-3 lab was constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 11.55 crore.
The construction of the BSL-3 which started on April 18 was completed in a record time of 32 days, he said, adding that it would normally take 5-6 months.
Now the state can conduct rapid testing, rather than sending to neighbouring states which not only takes time but was a burden on the resource and logistical arrangements, he said.
The BSL-2 lab at CIHSR is yet to be completed.
