
Chümoukedima, March 19 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) on March 19 commemorated the World Social Work Day, an event dedicated to highlighting the achievements of social workers and raising awareness about the importance of social services in society.
The theme of Social Work Day 2024 was “Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change”, which is rooted in the Global Agenda and emphasises the need for social workers to adopt innovative, community-led approaches that are grounded in indigenous wisdom and harmonious coexistence with nature, informed a press release from the institute.
Social workers play a critical role in promoting social inclusion, equity, and sustainable development by working with individuals, families, communities, and organizations to address their needs and promote their well-being, it said.
At NEISSR, the commemorative event was conducted by the Master of Social Work (MSW) Semester II students with Sushil Daimary as the chairperson. A debate was also organised on the topic ‘ILP in Nagaland’.
Meanwhile, NEISSR Vice-Principal Fr Khing exhorted students toward transformative change by noting that every individual is responsible such change because they hold the future.
We share the future of our society for we are the future. We should even open the path of justice, equality, respect and dignity of life for generations to come, he noted.
The Vice-Principal also opined that the social workers should positively impact society and maintained that the NEISSRIANS are presently engaging themselves positively in different fields to bring about a transformative society in the form of rural camps, fieldwork, observational visits to organizations and community engagement.
The little sparks of light make a great light for societal change, he added.
The day provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in social work and identify areas where more needs to be done, added the release.
