DIMAPUR, JUNE 3 (MExN): A bullet riddled body of a woman was discovered below the Chathe river bridge, near CIHSR, 4th Mile on Friday, June 3. It was found at around 6:00 am today. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur Wati Jamir the deceased, believed to be a ‘non-Naga’and in her mid-twenties, was found without any clothing on her body except a petticoat which was wrapped around her legs, the Additional SP said. Post-mortem however, ruled out rape. She bore three bullet wounds on the chest, head and the right palm and was partially submerged in the water.
Investigation of the crime scene led police to one spot on the edge of the river, where blood stains were found on the soil. A ladies’ handbag and a ‘sari’ with red and yellow prints, a T-shirt and a pair of brassieres were also found. No documents or evidence of identification was found in the handbag except some cosmetics and bangles, the Additional SP disclosed. This discovery led investigators to deduce the woman was first shot and her lifeless body dumped in the river. The murder is suspected to have occurred around midnight. The additional SP further said that some other credible physical evidence, the nature of which was not disclosed, linked it to one possible suspect. The identity of the suspect was not revealed citing it might hamper efforts to nab the person.
