Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): The Western Sümi Students' Union (WSSU) today termed bullying and harassment as deeply “disturbing and unacceptable” and firmly condemned such incidents.
“Such incidents, frequently surfacing on social media, are deeply disturbing and unacceptable in any civil society,” the Union stated in a condemnation note, referring to a recent video of alleged harassment of a young girl by her peer group going viral.
Terming such incidents inhumane and reprehensible, the WSSU said they are a gross violation of human dignity, safety, and the fundamental right to live without fear.
Thus, it called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice without delay and conveyed its full solidarity with the victim and her family during this traumatic time.
The Union also urged law enforcement authorities to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible.
“Justice must be served not only in accordance with the law but also in a manner that sends a clear message—such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” it said, adding that bullying and harassment inflict long-lasting psychological trauma on the victim and foster a climate of fear in society.
The WSSU also called upon all concerned stakeholders such as community leaders, educators, and institutions, to work collectively to prevent such incidents and to promote a culture of respect and safety for all.
