Changtongya, May 14 (MExN): Business establishments in Changtongya Town have started “indefinite” downing of shutters until a concrete decision is made regarding the issue of weekly Saturday Market (Haluating Bazar) in the Town.

The “Down All Shutters” called was in response to a resolution adopted by the Business Union, Changtongya Town (BUCTN) at its emergency meeting on Saturday.

In a representation to Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung on May 14, the BUCTN also urged the former for consideration and ‘earliest necessary action’ to redress the issue.

Narrating the chain of events, the BUCTN said that when it learnt from a “reliable source” that the weekly market was about to resume from April 16, the union officials deliberated on the matter and submitted a representation to the concerned Administration (SDO Civil) opposing its resumption.

The main motive is to ‘promote and encourage local Entrepreneurs post-COVID-19 pandemic,’ the union then stated, justifying its opposition.

Subsequently, the SDO (C) Changtongya convened a combine meeting of Gaonburas, All Ward Union, and BUTCN on April 26 to discuss to issue.

According to the union, the meeting concluded without any “amicable solution,” however, the concerned Administration SDO (C) assured the BUCTN that the matter would be “resolved during the next combine meeting which he will convene at the earliest.”

However, the BUCTN alleged that the SDO (C) Office issued on order on May 12 informing on the resumption of the weekly market, totally ignoring the union’s concern.

Consequently, the BUCTN’s May 14 representation, appended by its President, Imsuyanger and   General Secretary, Chubawati informed the DC that the union resolved to ‘Down All Shutters’ of all the business establishment under Changtongya Town ‘indefinitely’ until a concrete and decisive decision is reached upon” from May 14.
