Newmai News Network Imphal | October 4 A 50 year-old businessman was shot death by armed miscreants in the outskirts of Imphal this morning. The deceased was identified as one Lal Babu Singh - a native of Bihar. According to police sources, the man was a resident of Mantripukhri in North Imphal for the last 10 years and dealt in Ngari business (fermented fish). The incident occurred around 8:30 am near Manipur University. Three bullet wounds were found in the body of the deceased, Police informed. Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh denounced the murder. "In the past such killings were the order of the day. However, the gunmen backed out when all sections of people objected," IANS quoted the Chief Minister as saying. "Manipuri students and workers are in all states and in case of reprisals many persons will be at the receiving end," he warned. Opposition leader and former CM Okram Ibobi Singh also warned of reprisals. "Some daily wage earners and migrants may be killed in Manipur. In case of retaliation, many brilliant students and experts in many fields (elsewhere in the country) will be victimized," Ibobi stated. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
