DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): The Bodo Welfare Society, Dimapur on Saturday condemned the death of 46-year-old Deep Basumatary of Assam, who was found dead at the Yeshu Arms Wellness Foundation rehabilitation centre at Chekiye village, Chümoukedima.
According to the Society, preliminary findings indicated multiple injuries, including bruises on the limbs, buttocks, legs, left cheek and left hand, suggesting alleged assault inside the facility.
The organisation acknowledged the swift action taken by Diphupar Police Station, which has arrested five persons, including the owner of the rehabilitation centre. A post-mortem is under way at the Dimapur District Hospital, while authorities are also examining the centre’s licence, operational practices and staffing.
Stating that the incident reflects gaps in oversight of rehabilitation centres in the district, the Society called for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation by Nagaland Police. It demanded strict action under relevant laws against all those involved, suspension of the centre’s licence pending full compliance audit, and a wider inspection of similar facilities in Chümoukedima and neighbouring districts.
It also sought compensation and support for the family of the deceased. The Society urged civil society groups and community leaders to denounce the incident and support measures to prevent recurrence.
