Bye-elections postponed: ECI

DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has indefinitely postponed bye-elections in eight assembly segments that had been lying vacant across the country. This includes the vacant 14-Southern Angami-I and 60-Pungro-Kiphire seats in Nagaland which were left vacant after the demise of sitting MLAs Vikho-o Yhoshu and T Torechu. The 6 month period in which the seats have to be filled up was to lapse in June. An unprecedented step, the ECI's decision was prompted by the threat of the spread of infection during the election process.
