C Singson, Kuki Region functionaries shift allegiance to Kitovi Zhimomi's leadership

DIMAPUR, JULY 1 (MExN): In a significant realignment, senior leader C. Singson, Member of the Collective Leadership (MCL) of the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao–Alezo), has formally pledged allegiance to N. Kitovi Zhimomi, Convenor of the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPGs).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, accompanied by a list of functionaries from the Kuki region who have joined him, Singson cited decades of disillusionment with the fragmented trajectory of the Naga political movement. He said repeated defections and the proliferation of factions have weakened the cause and overshadowed the contributions of various communities, including the Kukis of Nagaland.

Recalling the historical role of the Kuki community—such as the appointment of the late Seikhohen and Lengjang to key positions in the Naga National Council (NNC)—Singson lamented that their contributions have been reduced to “almost unnoticeable grim statistics.”

Singson, who was also a signatory to the 2009 Covenant of Reconciliation initiated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), described that effort as a “desperate and humble attempt to sustain the goal with blood and tears.” Despite such contributions, he said the political future of the Kukis continues to be sidelined.

“Under such circumstances, I now seek the best way forward... and I have found no better political slogan than the call for re-unification,” he stated, expressing full support for the Agreed Position signed between WC-NNPGs and the Government of India on November 17, 2017.

Describing Zhimomi’s leadership as a “panacea” to the prolonged deadlock in the Naga political process, Singson urged like-minded national workers—both old and new—to rally under the banner of re-unification.

Along with Singson, several key figures from the Kuki region—including senior Tatars, Kilonsers, women wing leaders, and Athibung command members—have also declared their allegiance to the WC-NNPGs under the leadership of N. Kitovi Zhimomi.
