‘CAB a policy of BJP led NDA govt to enslave indigenous people’

Naga Hoho extends support to NSF on Republic Day boycott

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has extended its support to the call of the Naga Students Federation (NSF) to boycott the Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26 as a show of resentment against the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016.

Asserting that it has been voicing out against the Bill ever since it was introduced in 2016, a press statement issued by the communication cell, Naga Hoho said it rejects the “sinister design of BJP led NDA government in the centre striving to curb the inherent rights of the indigenous people to live freely in own land through demographic politics and thereby undermining the sentiments of the people.”

The Naga Hoho alleged that the BJP led NDA government had made it a policy to make the indigenous people of NE as “slave to mainlanders considering the strategic location of the region.”

Also pointing out that Nagaland is not far from Assam which has become a matter of great concern, the Naga Hoho apprehended that in a short while, the already over populated migrant prone state of Nagaland is bound to be severely affected basing on the fact that over 40 lakh non Indian citizens may have to leave Assam.

The Naga Hoho also termed the failure of the PDA government in Nagaland to take strong stand on the Bill as ‘ridiculous.’ It said linking Bengal Eastern Regulation Act of 1873 also called Inner line Permit (ILP) with CAB by the state government is either ‘total ignorance or a political game.’

Further, if the CAB does not infringe upon Art 371(A) as claimed by the PDA government, the Naga Hoho said there should be a special session of the Nagaland State Legislative Assembly to pass the resolution against CAB  before the passing of Bill in Rajya Sabha which is due to sit very soon.

Apart from NDPP & BJP, other coalition partners like JD (U), Independent and NPP should also spell out their position to the Naga people as coalition partners of PDA, the Naga Hoho added.  The Naga Hoho said it joins with the rest of the organizations/ student bodies who are concerned and alarmed over the passing of CAB which it said is ‘anti-indigenous people’ in nature.
