Dimapur | November 24
The new DC complex at Chumukedima is all set to serve as the administrative seat and district headquarters of Dimapur district. The state cabinet in its meeting held on November 1 last, approved shifting of Dimapur district administrative headquarters from the present site, roughly 2 km from Assam border to the new site at Chumukedima.
The decision of the state cabinet comes in the wake of apprehensions whether the government can effect shifting of district HQs to the new DC complex by this year.
With the state assembly election slated for early March 2013, the state government has to announce official shifting of Dimapur district HQ to the new site by this year, as by next year the election code of conduct will come into force, whereby the NPF –led DAN government or any other political parties would not be permitted to take advantage of any inauguration and programmes in the name of the party.
A visit to the new DC complex last week witnessed final touches being given to the main administrative building which will house the Deputy Commissioner’s office and establishments and 17 other government departments. The main building will also accommodate a SBI branch office and Treasury.
At least 15 staff quarters inside the sprawling DC complex, reportedly bigger in area than the State Civil Secretariat in Kohima, including official residences of DC and Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, have been completed while works are in full swing to complete offices of SP Dimapur and six other government departments.
It may be mentioned that the office of District Statistical Officer inside the new complex was inaugurated earlier on February 20 this year by Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for IPR and Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba.
Sources said the ongoing widening and blacktopping of the 3-km stretch main road from 7th Mile junction to the new DC complex will be completed in a couple of days. The main road to the new complex has a width of 40 feet (34 feet blacktopped) with provisions for footpaths (3 feet on each side of the road). The main drain along the road (2 ½ width and 3 feet deep) is also completed.
The new DC complex is approximately 12 km from Medziphema, 35 km from Niuland, 1 ½ km from Fire brigade office, 0.8 km from main Nagaland Police Training Academy Chumukedima and 1 ½ km from the National Institute of Technology (NIT). It is also adjacent to Nagaland LPG bottling plant, East Gas Station, to North East Inter-State Truck Terminus and Decorative& Dimensional Stone plant of Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd.
The area has also a dozen schools (both government and private). Residents of the area said that water is not a problem and that the ground water is clean and potable.
The whole of the sprawling complex is well fenced (concrete wall) and secure.
