Tizit (Mon), April 5 (MExN): Realizing the pressing need to ease manpower shortage ailing the department of Health & Family welfare in rendering quality health care service to the people, the cabinet has in principal agreed to enhance post-creation, minister for Health & Family Welfare K Azo said.
Inaugurating the newly extended Primary Health Centre (PHC) building at Tizit town, under Mon district on Tuesday, the minister further went on record stating, ‘the department would stop at nothing to extend all possible health care service to the people’. However, the present shortage continues to be a hindrance.
Apprising the public of Tizit on the health care scenario of the state, the minister who has personally led an inspection team to visit the eleven district hospitals in 2008-09 resented that out of the 124 odd PHCs in the state, over 20 of them were none functional as there were no doctors and nurses to man them. The department has also tried to rope in doctors from mainland but, the result has not been forthcoming, the minister said. The minister did not rule out increased in population and post creation within the department remaining constant in the last four decades as one the main reason behind the shortfall in manpower.
‘Our population has grown by leaps and bounds in the past decades, but post creation has not been done,’ he affirmed. Reacting to the demand of the Tizit public for up gradation of Tizit PHC to CHC, the minister said there were criteria to be met before such steps could be taken up by the department. He however assured to post more staffs once the cabinet consent for post creation comes through.
Also exhorting the public, Mission Director NRHM, Dr Toshevi Sema sought the cooperation of the people. She urged the public to take ownership of the infrastructures and help maintain the same. She also appealed to all the medical staffs posted in the PHC to render their best service to the patients. CMO Mon, Dr T Kikon in his short speech acknowledged the yeoman service rendered by the Tizit PHC headed by Dr GK Sharma stating, ‘Tizit PHC has been rated as best performing PHC in Mon district’. The minister was accompanied by local MLA, Alo and host of department officials from the directorate.
