CACYA celebrates completion of 25 years

Bishop urges youth to be agent of change and transformation

Kohima, September 25 (MExN): The Cathedral Angami Catholic Youth Association (CACYA) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Kohima on September 25 with Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, Parish Priest and Vicar General, as the main celebrant. The theme of the Jubilee Celebration was ‘You are the light of the world’.

Rev. Fr. Neisalhou in his homily said that the parable of Lazarus and the rich man evokes to have concern and compassion for “our brothers and sisters in need.” He stated that one can lose heaven because of one’s pre-occupation with oneself without any concern for those around them who need their care and assistance.

“Lazarus, the beggar was poor materially and depended on others for his daily existence, yet he was rich in God’s favour,” he reminded. Referring to the book of Ecclesiastes, he said, "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come" (Ecclesiastes 12:1). To learn to fear God and to walk in obedience to his commandments is core of the gospel, he added.

A press release from Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, Secretary to Bishop (Kohima) further informed that Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, during the short felicitation programme said the jubilee is a time to remember with gratitude the achievements of the last 25 years.

“CACYA has grown over the years and now it a big force to reckon with. We must also now make difference in the society by being a catalyst for social change,” he encouraged. The Bishop also called upon the youth to be agent of change and transformation. “Instead of blaming people and situations around us let your light shine before others so that they may see the good you do and praise God,” he stated.

Vizovono Janet Chaya anchored the programme, while Dr. Kekhrieseno Christina presented the brief history of ACYA. The choir from Cathedral Angami Catholic Youth Association and Angami Catholic Women Association enthralled the audience with their melodious voice. Viketoulie Lawrence Solo, Advisor, CACYA pronounced the vote of thanks.
