CAKSU backs DNSU’s opposition to non-Naga inclusion in DMC

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 23 (MExN): The Chakhro Angami Kuda Students' Union (CAKSU) has thrown its support behind the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) in its opposition to the inclusion of non-Nagas in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC).

The endorsement follows deliberations at the DNSU's 1st Union Assembly on August 10, where concerns were raised about the potential implications of such appointments.

A press release from the CAKSU emphasized its commitment to safeguarding Naga rights and traditions, highlighting Article 371(A) as a cornerstone of Naga heritage that must be preserved. The union expressed alarm that appointing non-Nagas to decision-making positions within the DMC could undermine the autonomy and identity of Naga communities.

While acknowledging the importance of expertise in governance, the CAKSU insisted that these roles should be filled by qualified individuals from within the Naga community, who are deeply rooted in the customs and traditions of the region.

The union urged the state government to heed the sentiments of the Naga people, as outlined in the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, when making such appointments.
