CAKU condemns army raid in its leader’s home

Urges individuals/organisations to fight for AFSPA repeal

Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): The Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) has expressed “pain and shock” at the surprise raid carried out by the Indian Army in the residence of one of its leaders, Savi Liegise during the wee hour of March 15. The incident has “severely caused mental trauma to the family members,” asserted CAKU in a press statement while condemning “such act meted to our law abiding citizen in the like of Savi and his family who is a well-known social workers as well as public leader.”

The statement from CAKU president, Loula-o Üsou and general secretary, Thejangulie Angami added, “Serving the people since his youth till date at various capacities who always yearn for peace and harmony, whereas the action of Indian Army terming a leader in the like of Savi as criminal activist is totally unacceptable and uncalled for.”

Further, the union denounced the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) 1958 which empowers the military to “exercise its utmost power against the innocent civilian/citizen without any sympathy.” Hence, it called upon all the right thinking Nagas, civil societies/ organizations to come together and fight to repeal the act from our land.

“Today it may be Savi but tomorrow it might be you and me who may fall into this trap and face the same unseen humiliation and torture unless this very Act is abolished,” CAKU cautioned.

The CAKU furthered warned that it will not remain a silent spectator to such act “if so meted out to any of its peace loving citizens in future without declaring any concrete reason behind their (army) activity.”
