DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): The Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organisation (CAKYO) has expressed concern over a reported incident involving firing and abduction at Aoyimkum village in Dimapur.
In a statement, CAKYO said armed individuals forcibly entered a private residence on the night of December 15, fired gunshots, injured civilians and abducted persons at gunpoint. The organisation described the act as appalling and inexcusable, stating that it amounted to a gross violation of the law, basic humanity and the principles of a civilised society.
Terming the use of weapons, even blank shots, during the festive season as criminal intimidation, CAKYO said such actions erode peace, undermine social harmony and violate the fundamental values of human dignity and the rule of law.
The organisation further expressed serious concern over the repeated occurrence of such incidents and the absence of visible accountability or convictions, warning that silence and inaction could normalise fear and embolden criminal elements.
While acknowledging that individuals involved in illicit activities may possess information about others engaged in similar trades, CAKYO strongly condemned the manner in which the incident was carried out.
The organisation extended its support to collective efforts against anti-social elements and expressed solidarity with the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO), calling for immediate and decisive action by the authorities to uphold justice and maintain public order.
ENPUD: The Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD) unequivocally condemned the alleged raid and abduction that occurred on December 15 at Aoyimkum village.
An update from the Union stated that the ENPUD unanimously affirmed its full support to Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) in their demand for justice, adding that it should not be a mere tokenism but concrete translation of actions.
“The ENPUD also call upon the Naga armed groups to prioritize peace and coexistence with the public, urging them to refrain from actions that instill fear within the community because they are fighting for Naga cause and not to harass Naga civilians,” it stated.
