Call to end atrocities meted out to Rengmas in KA

Dimapur, January 3: International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO), Kohima Unit has vehemently condemned the atrocities meted out to the Rengmas of Karbi Anglong by Karbi militants. Recounting the incidents, IHRO, Kohima Unit President Kezhokhoto Savi said, the violence continues, but, Assam government failed to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, particularly the Rengma Nagas of Karbi Anglong.

The president in a press release asserted that the atrocities brought upon the Rengma Nagas of KA were cases of total violation of human rights in the highest manner. The president, explaining the human rights abuses Nagas had to experience in the past, said Nagas were ignorant of human rights then, but today, he affirmed, Nagas cannot accept and tolerate such act. Savi urged the Government of Nagaland to immediately constitute its State Human Rights Commission at the earliest and also appealed the Government of Assam to respect the rights of Rengma Nagas of Karbi Anglong.

TSUD: Tenyimi Students Union Dimapur (TSUD) has strongly condemned the attack on Rengma Nagas. In a condemnation note, TSUD president Jenpu Rongmei and its secretary, games and sports Azo Wetsah expressed pain to note that “the Rengma Nagas are being prosecuted, hunted down and their homes burned by the Karbi militants in their own ancestral homeland without regard for any human rights.” TSUD urged both Assam and Nagaland governments to provide adequate security and ensure the fundamental rights of the Rengmas in Karbi Anglong. The Union further appealed the Karbi militants to shun the path of violence for peaceful co-existence.

TUJ: Tenyimi Union Jalukie (TUJ) has expressed deep anguish at the “inhuman treatment meted out to the innocent Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anglong by the KPLT cadres along with some Karbi civilians.” In a statement, TUJ President Suloni Semy and Treasurer A. Daiho Mao said the union strongly condemned the cold blooded killings, burning houses, granaries and displacing of the Rengma Nagas in KA, Assam. The union also appealed to the Government of Assam to deliver justice at the earliest for peaceful co-existence.

THN: The Tangkhul Hoho, Nagaland (THN) has strongly condemned the atrocities meted out to the Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anglong, Assam by Karbi militants. In a press statement, THN president NA Kasar said that the act of the Karbi miltants during Christmas time can be termed as “disrespect of Christianity and a case of total violations of Human Rights in the highest manner.” THN urged the Government of Assam to respect the rights of Rengma Nagas and protect lives and properties of its citizens, particularly the Rengma Nagas living in Karbi Anglong district.  THN further prayed for God’s comfort upon the displaced Rengmas, while hoping for normalcy to prevail soon in their homeland.

YAN: Youth Association of Nagaland has condemned the atrocities against the Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anglong, Assam. YAN president, Hetoi Chishi said such act of barbarism on the innocent villagers by Karbi outfit is senseless act which will not bring about a solution but would give way to hatred and violence. Hetoi appealed to governments of Assam and Nagaland to put best effort to work out a suitable solution to ensure the safety of the innocent Rengmas while also delivering justice to the victims.
