Call for recall of 9 IRB renews

The recent death of a Naga jawan of the 9 IRB stationed at Chhattisgarh has renewed the demand of the personnel’s families in recalling the force. The killing of the jawan by Naxalites has prompted the kin of 9 IRB cadres to re-seek a reply from the Chief Minister.

Wives, parents and concerned family members today said in an open letter to the Chief Minister that they were yet to receive a response to their representation submitted to him on March 2 last. The representation asking for withdrawal of the force from Chhattisgarh “was submitted to the Government of Nagaland through the Director General of Police, Kohima, Nagaland,” the open letter states.

The silence of the government has made the families skeptical of its concern towards their welfare. “Therefore, we are once again forced to strongly urge and request the government to immediately initiate the withdrawal of the 9th NAP (IRB) personnel for the genuine reasons stated already in the representation submitted earlier.”

Interacting with The Morung Express today, some family members said cadres are also interested in coming home but keep mum for fear of reprisals. The terms applicable to the duration of their stay in Chhattisgarh was also questioned.

Asking for the public’s support in bringing back the jawans, the family members said the force’s officers do not express any form of sympathy towards them and their attempts to meet the cadres’ superiors have fallen in vain.
