Call for urgent repairs and monitoring of ‘deplorable’ NH-702 Changtongya-Dikhu River stretch

Longleng, July 20 (MExN): A meeting of community leaders and administrative officials on July 19 concluded with a collective commitment to regularly monitor the deteriorating condition of National Highway-702 between Changtongya and the Dikhu River and to push for urgent repair works.

Convened in response to the “critical and deplorable” state of the road, the meeting brought together representatives from the Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC), Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang (LTM), Langpangkong Range Road Coordination Committee (LRRCC), and the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Changtongya.

Addressing the meeting, PPC President YB Angam Phom highlighted the severe daily hardships faced by the Phom community due to the poor road infrastructure. He emphasised that the poor road conditions significantly impact daily life, commerce, and regional connectivity.

In response, Nukshimatong, SDO (Civil) and Border Magistrate, and ADC Tuli and Changtongya In-charge, assured the gathering of the administration's unwavering support in addressing these pressing concerns. He also urged civil society organisations (CSOs) to continue their full cooperation to expedite solutions, the release stated.

Further discussions saw the LTM President and the LRRCC Convenor underscore the importance of unity among all stakeholders. They also called for immediate and effective measures to address the condition of the road under their respective jurisdictions.

The PSC General Secretary reaffirmed that the student body would continue to offer consistent cooperation and support to the administration and organisations, serving as a key representative for students.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to conduct regular inspections of the road condition, the release said. 
This ongoing monitoring aims to facilitate early intervention and ensure the rapid development of infrastructure for the betterment of the entire region, it added.
