‘Call for peace’ campaign in Wokha

Wokha, April 27 (MExN): Peace Channel organised one day inter school activity – ‘Call for peace’ campaign with the theme ‘End plastic pollution’ – at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Wokha.

Altogether, 146 Peace Club members from four schools along with seven teacher animators attended the programme.

Resource person N Yanpothung Ezung, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Bailey Baptist College, Wokha exhorted the students to end plastic pollution, stating it takes 1000 years to decompose plastic. “We can rise above the use of plastics by reducing its use and reusing it and encouraging for recycling of plastic materials,” he stated, according to a press release from Peace Channel. Yanpothung also encouraged the students to support ban of plastic bags, polystyrene, and bottle recycling.

Meanwhile, peace activist Patrick W Tungoe, speaking on the ‘Call for peace’ campaign, encouraged the students to replace the old paradigm of war and conflict with the paradigm of waging peace.

Later, the students took a pledge to “make a genuine peace, a kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, a peace that enables men and nation to grow, to hope and to build a better life for the future generation, not merely a peace in our time but peace for all time.”
