
Peren, January 16 (MExN): Day one of 8th state Level Mimkut Mini Hornbill Festival was held on January 15 at Ahthibung Town, Peren where Namri Nchang, Advisor for Water Resources Department graced the inaugural function as special guest.
According to a DIPR report, in his address, he reminded the gathering that Mimkut (post-harvest festival) celebrated every year in the month of January is to thank and praise God for the last rich harvest showered upon the Kuki community for which all should be grateful. He also pointed out that the state Government has given due importance to tribal festivals to showcase their traditions, customs and cultures which is unique and should be well preserved and promoted.
Nchang added that today we are living in a global village but however well equipped with wisdom and technology, if one is without his/her traditions, customs and cultures, he has lost his identity. He wished the Kuki community of Nagaland for the best outcome of the Mimkut Festival.
On the second day, the inauguration of Lt. Lengjang Kuki Memorial Park at the entrance of Ahthibung Town near Forest Gate was made by H. Khehovi Yepthomi, Advisor Tourism, Art & Culture on January 16. He appealed to the public in general and Kuki community in particular to bring out close friendship with other tribes during the Festival and spread love to all Naga brethren in the District and the State. Release of Biography of Lt. Lengjang Kuki was done by L.L Kuki President Kuki INPI.
Highlights of the day’s programme were presentation of cultural dances by Chakhro Cultural Troupe, Western Sumi Cultural Troupe, Zeliang Cultural Troupe from Tening, Peren and Kuki Cultural troupes.
Thepfuulhouvi Solo, IFoS (Retired) & Principal Secretary, Forest Government of Nagaland also spoke on the occasion. S.Tainiu D.C Peren Chairman, Mimkut Mini Hornbill Festival Organising committee chaired the function.
