A call to resolve for unity

Kohima: The Kohima Aor Telongjen (KAT) held its general meeting at Molu ki Kohima on February 22 with Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Dr. Benjongliba Aier as the chief guest and Pro-Vice Chancellor Nagaland University Kohima Campus Meriema Prof. A. Lanunungsang as the main speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest informed that Kohima Aor Telongjen (Kohima Ao Union) was started back in the year 1979 with a purpose to help, encourage and to work together in times of need. The chief guest observed that during the 35 years of existence, there may be many ups and downs but the record clearly states that the KAT has really done wonderful job through KAT members which includes bureaucratic, technocrats, policy makers.

The Parliamentary Secretary said the construction of Molu ki is a great pride for all the KAT members. He also informed how all the 11 MLAs from Ao tribe have contributed from LADF and thanked the entire KAT members for donating for the successful completion of Molu ki.

The main speaker Pro-Vice Chancellor NU Kohima Campus Meriema Prof. A. Lanunungsang spoke on the topic of ‘Aos Okentenshidima”. He elaborated on the topic, which is calling for re-dedication, re-strengthening, re-organising and a call to resolve for unity.

Prof. A. Lanunungsang described “Oktenba ola” as a voice which is backed by a great strength and if the leader and people fail to use and understand these virtue, the rate of success in any field will be minimum. He pointed out some points which distinguishes Ao identity like the Ao language, songs, dance, dresses and marriage and further adviced the gathering not to forget the traditional values and exhorted to preserve for the future generation.  Stating that the Mokokchung district was declared as the land of pioneers, he urged upon every Ao to bear in mind their responsibilities and practiced in whatever field one is working. He suggested some important steps “Aor Okenshitsunungdakba Wadang” as: to increase the size of Mokokchung town; to make Tuli and Tzurang plain into a linear city; to gave more emphasis on the construction of Foot Hill Road; to take the lead for the Naga peace talk; the importance of Look East policy; to preserve the importance of Ao language; and to choose leaders who are capable enough and make Nagaland a more developed state.

President Watsu Telongjem Kohima Watilemla informed that Watsu Telongjem Kohima was first started in 1982 and has completed 32 years and during this course of time KAT is always supported with regard and love which is in the record of WTK. Describing Naga men folk as headhunters who always stood for truth and even sacrifice with their life, she called on the men folks to take the lead in providing security for the women.

The outgoing President KAT S. Martsungba Aier thanked all the office bearers executive and members of KAT for their support and expressed full confidence with the new office bearers. The new office bearers for the current session are President- Youdang; Vice President- Talituba; General Secretary- Sentimenbang Jamir; Assistant General Secretary- Imsennok; Finance Secretary- Sentiyanger and Treasurer- Amen Yaden IFS (Rtd). MLA & Advisor NBDA Dr. Longrineken and MLA & Chairman NPCB Amenba Yaden accompanied the chief guest. The programme was chaired by the office bearers of KAT, opening prayer by Pastor KABA M. Asangba Lkr. Special number by Ao Students Union Kohima, vote of thanks proposed by Vice President KAT Youdang.
