Call to spread awareness on hygienic living

Dimapur: The launching programme of ‘National Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation Awareness Week’ was held at IMC Hall on Thursday with SDO (C) Dimapur, Dr. Kadambari Bhagat, as the chief guest. Kadambari in her address said ‘sanitation’ is not only about creating infrastructure but more importantly to spread awareness on hygienic living and how to utilize sanitation facilities. She said that Nagaland with a literacy rate of 82% (more than the national average) should take the lead in taking sanitation to a higher level. She also dwelled on the need for correct disposal of waste including segration of waste products. Kadamabari also stressed on the need to educate women and children on sanitation. “If you educate a man, you educate one person. But if you educate a woman, you educate the entire family,” she added. The administrative officer was of the view that sanitation awareness should not be only a weeklong affair but a lifetime process.

Executive engineer, PHE Store, Er. Gwatilo explained on the objective of the NRDW & S awareness week. Superintendent engineer PHE also addressed the gathering. Earlier, executive engineer, PHE (Rural), Er. Tongpang Longkumer, delivered the welcome address and executive engineer, PHE (Urban), Er. Imtiakum proposed vote of thanks. Project engineer, District Water & Sanitation Mission, PHE (Rural) Er. Mersen chaired the launching programme.
