
Mon, June 11 (MExN): Election Department, Mon with SVEEP District Icon Lemei, Miss Mon 2016 organised Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign at Chenwetnyu village in Mon district on June 10. The campaign focused on clean electoral roll and Clean Election.
Lemei encouraged the young people who have attained 18 years of age to enroll in electoral census. “Voting is our right,” she asserted, adding women have equal right to vote.
AEO Mon Aketo spoke on clean electoral roll and Clean Election. He highlighted some of the malpractices and manipulations which happen during election like money, muscle powers, commitment for public service, contract work, use of alcohol etc. He further urged the people not to sell their vote, but choose the right leader for their future.
Meanwhile, he informed that the Election Commission of India will launch Special Drive for enrollment of young eligible left out electors, particularly in the age group of18-19 years from July 1. In t his regard, he encouraged the young people to enroll in the electoral roll at the right time and check their electoral census time to time to ensure their enrollment in Electoral Census. Aketo also appealed to the people to delete proxy and bogus voters from the electoral roll. Such voters, he stated, are ineligible and also affect the health of the e-rolls.
“Election Department alone would not be able to tackle this issue, unless it gets active support from citizens. Peoples are the important stakeholders for the welfare and development,” he added. The AEO suggested to take up some identified electors for purification of electoral roll and Clean Election. Further, he highlighted the electoral gender ratio, vote casting percentage of 2013 and 2014 election of 45th A/C Tehok.
The programme was chaired by Yanithung N Ngullie, EAC Mon sadar, in charge of SDO(C) Chen Hq, while vote of thanks was delivered by Wansa, UDA, Election Office Mon. GBs, DBs, officers, church members, village elders, youth from Chenwetnyu village and surrounding villages attended the campaign.
