Mon, November 13 (MExN): The SAANS campaign (Social Awareness and Action Plan to Neutralise Pneumonia) was launched by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) District Hospital Mon, Dr Supongmenla Walling, on November 12.

The objective of the campaign is to create awareness in the community about interventions to protect and prevent childhood pneumonia, as well as to increase caregivers' awareness, enabling them to identify pneumonia early. According to a press release from the CMO's office, during the launch, Dr Walling highlighted the aims, objectives, and guidelines of the SAANS campaign, noting that the condition is mostly detected during the winter months.

The campaign will run from November 12, 2024, to February 28, 2025, she informed.

Dr Walling emphasised that the staff should ensure the effective implementation of the SAANS campaign and the timely achievement of the targeted goals.

She also urged all stakeholders and staff to work harder to further reduce the infant mortality rate in the district. The programme was chaired by H Rengma, District Accounts Manager.
